Camac is a charming beachside cottage just moments from two golden sandy beaches—perfect for long, lazy summer days spent building sandcastles, exploring rock pools, or enjoying a classic Devon cream tea. Best of all, it’s only a few steps back ‘home’ for a cooling break and a sand-free lunch in the sunny garden.
This characterful terraced cottage, once a pair of coastguard cottages, is nestled beneath Shippens, the grassy hill that gently separates Outer and Inner Hope beaches. Tucked away in the heart of the idyllic seaside village of Hope Cove, Camac offers the perfect blend of coastal charm and comfort.
Whether you’re soaking up the summer sun or enjoying bracing walks along the coast in the cooler months, this delightful spot makes a perfect year-round escape.
Please note: Due to the steepness and setup of the stairs the property may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm. Children need to be supervised in the garden due to unfenced boundary leading to cliffs.
Ground floor:
Sitting room with feature fireplace housing a wood burner, two large sofas, chairs, TV, DVD, CD player.
Kitchen with large fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and electric fan-assisted cooker with induction hob. Steps up and access to rear garden.
Snug, a quiet corner with armchair and fireplace (not in use).
Dining room with dining table to seat 8.
Family bathroom with bath, shower over and basin.
Separate WC.
First Floor (accessed by two staircases at either end of the house):
Bunk bedroom with 3ft full size bunks.
Double bedroom with 5ft king size bed. This room has a connecting door to a second….
Double bedroom with a 4ft 6in wrought iron bedstead, wardrobe and village views.
Bunk bedroom with full size 3ft bunks (note: an awkward step into this room from the stairs).
Please Note: Both double bedrooms have their own separate entrances, although they also have an interconnecting door.
At the rear of the cottage is an unfenced lawned area, with two picnic benches, chairs, charcoal barbecue and low walls on one side. (There are no fenced boundaries between the garden areas of the other cottages). The ground rises and extends on to the higher part of the hillside.
This natural area is owned by all the cottages in the row, so is communal and although the views from the top are spectacular, children will need very careful supervision as it is unfenced and the land drops away as a vertical cliff face to the sea below. The front of the cottage has two benches and faces a single track lane, mainly used as a footpath between the beaches.
A very large shared garage is a few steps away where there is designated parking for one car.
Hope Cove is one of South Devon’s most beloved and sought-after seaside destinations. This charming former fishing village, set in postcard-perfect surroundings, is home to some of the region’s most idyllic coastal holiday cottages—making it the ideal spot for a traditional British beach holiday in a truly stunning natural setting.
Nestled between the twin villages of Inner and Outer Hope, the cove boasts two golden sandy beaches, perfect for sunbathing, paddling, and sandcastle-building. Rock pools abound, offering endless entertainment for curious kids, while the sheltered waters of Inner Hope often provide ideal conditions for safe bodyboarding.
The village itself is full of coastal charm. Dine with a sea view at the popular Hope & Anchor pub or head to The Cove, a laid-back café bar serving everything from lazy late breakfasts to relaxed sunset dinners just steps from the beach. Art lovers will enjoy the Hope Cove Gallery, where local artists showcase their work—perfect for picking up a souvenir or simply browsing away a sunny afternoon. For a quiet moment, grab an ice cream, find a bench overlooking the bay, and watch the gentle waves roll in.
For those feeling adventurous, a walk to the hidden gem of Beacon Beach offers a peaceful retreat where you may find yourself alone with just the seabirds for company. The South West Coast Path leads in both directions: east to Bolberry and beyond, or west to South Milton Sands, where you can swim and dine at the stylish Beach House restaurant.
Nearby Thurlestone, with its scenic beaches, is just a short drive or a rewarding walk along the coast path. You’ll also find Bantham and the vibrant harbour town of Salcombe within easy reach, along with the rolling hills and quiet lanes of the South Devon countryside.
A holiday cottage in Hope Cove is more than just a getaway—it’s the perfect base for making unforgettable memories on the beautiful Devon coast.
