6 The Walk Holiday Home in Lyme Regis

Perched in an enviable seafront location in Lyme Regis, this charming Victorian house offers the perfect setting for a quintessential seaside holiday. The elevated veranda above the promenade provides uninterrupted views of the beach, sea, historic Cobb, and the distant Portland coastline—an ideal spot to relax and watch the world go by. These stunning vistas can also be enjoyed from the lounge, two bedrooms, and the cozy snug, which sits just inside the front entrance. Lyme Regis is a truly special destination. Nestled along the breathtaking UNESCO-listed Jurassic Coast, it is often referred to as the “Pearl of Dorset”—and for good reason. Renowned worldwide for fossil hunting, the town also lies along the South West Coast Path, offering an abundance of spectacular walks and hikes.

The town’s sheltered, south-facing beaches provide safe waters for children and water sports enthusiasts alike, while the historic Cobb Harbour offers fantastic opportunities for fishing and leisure boat trips. Lyme Regis also boasts a vibrant food and music scene and is frequently used as a prime filming location. Throughout the year, the town hosts a variety of lively festivals and events, including the jazz and folk festivals, Food Rocks, Regatta & Carnival Week, Guitars on the Beach, and Lifeboat Week—a fun-filled celebration featuring games, music, and exciting displays for all ages. Alongside these major events, Lyme Regis is alive with smaller festivals and activities, ensuring there’s always something happening.

The picturesque seaside town of Lyme Regis, with its relaxed pace and old-world charm, is a perfect place to escape and unwind. Nestled along the dramatic Jurassic Coast, where Dorset meets Devon, Lyme Regis is surrounded by rolling countryside and breathtaking coastal scenery, offering visitors a truly stunning natural setting.

Famous for its iconic Cobb—a curving harbour wall dating back to the 13th century—the town is a fantastic spot for crabbing, fishing, or taking a boat trip to soak in the magnificent views from the water. At the far end of the Cobb, the Lyme Regis Aquarium showcases fascinating local marine life, including crabs, seahorses, and (at the time of writing) an 80-year-old lobster!

History and nature lovers will enjoy the Lyme Regis Museum, which provides insight into the area’s rich fossil heritage. Afterwards, why not put your newfound knowledge to the test? Explore the ancient coastline in search of fossils or join a guided fossil walk to uncover relics from the ever-eroding cliffs.

Wandering through Lyme Regis’ historic 14th-century old town is a pleasure in itself, with its charming shops, inviting tea rooms, and quirky galleries. In the evening, take in a show at the seafront theatre or dine at one of the town’s excellent restaurants, where you can sample locally caught seafood and other regional delights.

For those craving a beach day, Cobb Beach is a popular choice for families, while other stunning beaches—including Charmouth Beach, Chesil Beach, and Weymouth Beach—are just a short drive away.

Beyond the town, there are plenty of attractions for a fun family day out. Just over the border in East Devon, you’ll find the Axe Valley Wildlife Park, the historic Seaton Tramway, and the beloved Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary.

Staying in a holiday cottage in Lyme Regis offers the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in everything this charming seaside town has to offer, while also serving as a great base for exploring the beauty of both Dorset and East Devon.
